Hi Experts,

what's the advantages of having the different instances or databases on a node in RAC database

Please advise.

Regards,

The same pro & con arguments that apply to a stand alone system for having only 1 or more than 1 DB per system.

There is no 1 size fit all cases solution.
For some situations only 1 DB per system is better.
For some situations more than 1 DB is better.
It is a case by case decision & in some cases the deciding factor is not technical, but budgetary (hardware & license fees).

Hi BlackSwan,

Thanks for your repsonse. Are there any performance improvements if we create a separate instance with an user to retain historical data?

If not, can we create a database on the different server to retain the historical data?

Please shed some lights on this..

Thanks & Regards,
Richard

I think we already answered to this question in your previous topic: Need for separate instance in RAC database
If not, tell us in which points.

Michel

At best with multiple instance, performance will stay the same.
Multiple instance means more overhead which can make things SLOWER.
