Does anyone have left and right functions that I can use?

I dont know why these functions dont exist in plsql

i'm wanting to do soemthing like

right(somestring, 6)

Left, Right? Do you mean like VB functions?
Why does SUBSTR not agree you? It can do what left and right does and even more.

SQL> select substr('0123456789',-6) from   dual;
SUBSTR
------
456789

1 row selected.

Thanks very much indeed. I knew of substr, but just needed confirmation that there are no such left or right's.

The best way to know it is to look at Database SQL Reference and not just trust somone in forum that might not know ALL the Oracle SQL functions.
