Is there a way for a called form (Oracle forms 6i) to know if the calling form was in query only mode ?

To know if the current mode is 'enter-query' you would use 'system.mode'.

Have a play with 'system.mode' in the 'when-new-form-instance' trigger and see if it can help you.
