Hi,

I am very new to Oracle Forms (Forms 6i). I have designed the following 2 forms

1. Login.fmb
2. UpdateEmployee.fmb

I have also compiled the above forms and tested, and it is running fine. Now I need to deploy these forms. I have following doubt,

1. If i want to execute my forms in other systems (Which doesnt have Oracle forms) will it work , Do we have any kind of packaging and deployment here.
Please reply

Regards,

Hi,

As it is Forms 6i, you must install Forms Runtime for other machines to be able to run Forms.

Install Forms runtime and create a shortcut for your login.fmx from a shared folder(i suppose), with proper connection details.

Hope this helps.

P.S: You need not install the entire forms developer, the CD that is used for installation of oracle forms lets you choose Forms runtime (deployment)

The original question was: "If i want to execute my forms in other systems (Which doesn't have Oracle forms) ...".

Installing Forms runtime means "visit all other systems and install Forms runtime".

Deploying Forms on the web requires nothing on "other systems" as they probably already have internet browser (which is the only software required to run a form over the web).

You are right Littlefoot, I just answered this because the other option you already mentioned.

@ ashoka_bl, web doesn't mean you are porting it to internet. It can also be your intranet. It means you just need to open up the browser and run the software instead of installing in all your machines.

Hi,

Yeah, I understand.. But If i develop a Standalone application, and want to execute it in other system ,Assume I have developed in Home and want to execute in my friend's place who doesnt have only oracle(with same Schema and DDLs and DMLs) will copying .fmx(set of all) will do good, or do i need to install "Forms Runtime" there.

Having said that the above mentioned is just an example, and I would prefer web based (Intranet).

Hi Anantha,

Thanks for the tips and information. I really appreciate for making it clear.

Now assume If i use Forms 10g by default if It will be executed in Web browser,Do I need to do anything extra for deploying it. Or simply by giving the URL ( For Eg.http://ashoka-4ea4fcbd:8889/forms/frmservlet/formname.fmx) can anybody access my application.

Ashoka BL

Hi, basically if you have the url anyone can access the application, provided you give login details in the configuration file. If you are not giving the connection details in the file, you can prompt the user to login to the database. Also in 10g you will not give the fmx file name in the url but it is the configuration name.

Anantha
