Create buttons in the normal way, but choose "Create a button displayed among this region's items".
Afterwards you can see that the button appears in both the list of items and the list of buttons on the page. Go in to its attributes. In the "Button Request Value" region you can specify the "post element text" which will be shown after the button.

To create a common sidebar menu on several pages:
1) define the list of links (from within your app workspace, shared components > lists > create).
2) add a region of type "list" to each page and specify the list in #1. This menu can use template "Sidebar Menu" or whatever you prefer. Set the region to Column 1 if you want it on the left.
3) set your other regions on the page to Column 2 or whatever to place them on the right on the sidebar.

You could set a style attribute in the attributes field in the "button display attributes" region of the button's properties.

as a correction to my earlier post, it seems the best place to define common commonents to a set of pages is page 0. So if you add a tree menu to page 0, then it will be included in all other pages in the app too.
