When I first saw a similar message, I didn't react - I thought that that particular user doesn't know how to attach files. But now I've seen another one, here, saying that| Quote: | thats because I cant post pictures yet (less than 5 posts)
|
Frank N., is there really such a restriction? (I don't feel like registering once again, just to be a new user and see it by myself).

Ross, I'm terribly sorry, I probably shouldn't have continued a (relatively) old discussion. Though, as subjects do fit, I thought that there's no need to open a new topic. Sorry again.
Anyway: it is NOT about number of allowed attachments (which varies from forum to forum - I took some time and created a list of maximum numbers of files that can be attached to a message; perhaps Frank Naude can take a look and do something (i.e. make them equal)) but the fact that that particular member complained that he has had too few posts (less than 5) so he was unable to attach an image to his message.
OK, here's the list. Note that there's no restriction in allowed file extensions (how come it disappeared?).

I guess that 100 files is far too many, 1 is (sometimes) not enough. 5 would be OK, I think.

Littlefoot,
Well, this is interesting. I was about to post the following:
"What makes your mystery user think that the problem is due to only having 5 posts? Does he or she get a message that says that or is it just an assumption? I suspect that your user is either not uploading the file properly or is violating some other restriction, such as extension or size. I was able to post an image under an alias (KittyCat) with only 2 posts:"
http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/147010/121233/
but when I tried to post it with the link above as KittyCat, I got:
"You cannot use links until you have posted more than 5 messages."
So, perhaps I was able to post the image as KittyCat because it was in the test forum. Which forum did your user have the problem on?
I can see a possible reason for such a restriction. It prevents new spammers from posting undesriable links and images, before they can be caught and eliminated. I suppose a simple workaround is to post 4 garbage messages in the test forum, to increase your post count, then post your image in your fifth post.

That makes sense! The user who complained about not being able to attach an image took discussion in Forms forum. OK then, restriction applies to all users with less than 5 messages and it has been done on purpose (i.e. it is not a bug). Thank you for checking that out!

The 5 message requirement is only applicable to links. Users with less than 6 messages will get an error: "You cannot use links until you have posted more than ??? messages.".
