We are in the middle of our Data Warehouse proj and some of the design issues that arose are what should be used for keys on our dimension tables. Since there are so many dimension tables we are wondering what is easier to maintain and what are the standards for such?

thanks.

Dan

So I take it that we should create a sequence for each table that will need a unique key ?

Thanks for the quick reply Smile

There does not need to be a 1 to 1 relationship between sequence & table.

In theory a single sequence could be used for all the tables.
However, a single sequence could become a performance bottleneck where many users & many INSERT occur concurrently.

I am not aware of any standard.

How about 1 sequence for each ETL job?
