Hello,

We are using Oracle 10G (10.2.0.2.0) and after creating a materialized view (with aprox 32 GB in the TEMP Tablespace) we are getting the error ORA-00472: PMON process terminated with error, and we cannot make any transaction on the database.

We can startup the database, however after aprox 51 sec the database shutdowns itself.

The alert log shows the following:

Hi Babu,

Thanks for your reply.

But before the creation of the materialized view everything was fine! How can I undo the materialized view and delete it?

Thanks in advanced.

ASAIK; Lot of bug's fixed in 10.2.0.3 and 10.2.04. That's why I recommend to you upgrade your database.

>>How can I undo the materialized view and delete it

You can use DROP MATERIALIZED VIEW statements.

I think it's releated to job_queue_processes parameter. Try to increase before creating/droping materialized view.

I think you are facing block corruption in the database.I
would suggest you to contact oracle support.

Hello Babu,

I increased the job_queue_processes parameter but the result was the same.

When I try to delete Materialized View the process is aborted by the database, because the database shutdowns itself.

I've also try to upgrade my database to the 10.2.0.4, but when I try to run the scripts i cannot upgrade because the PMON process shutdowns the database!

How can I proceed?

I think that the problem is that when the database starts she tries to refresh the materialized view that cause this problem (the datafile of the materialized view has 33 GB). How can I solve this?

Thanks in advanced.

NF

Please post your alert log file.

Are you following patch set readme.html document for installation??

>>When I try to delete Materialized View the process is aborted by the database, because the database shutdowns itself.

What do you mean by delete materialized view.

Post complete alert log.

Hi,

>> What do you mean by delete materialized view.

The problem started when we created a materialized view that used 33Gb of a datafile from the TEMP tablespace.

Here is a total shot in the dark.
job_queue_processes=0

Essentially disable background jobs (DBMS_JOBS) & see if instance stays up & online after STARTUP

Hello,

I've installed the upgrade but when we startup the database in upgrade mode after a while the error is the same in the alert log (ORA-00472).

I don't want to bother to dig into old release notes now.
IIRC, prior to starting upgrade the directions are to add an "undocumented" initora parameter which disables SYSTEM triggers.

It is not reported in previous post, but then I am not sure it gets reported even when disabled.

Just offering a possible cause/solution.

I cannot change the parameter because the database shutdowns..

Is there any way to start the database in "security mode"?

Sure you can!

sqlplus
/ as sysdba
create pfile from spfile;
exit

Now edit pfile.

sqlplus
/ as sysdba
startup pfile='pfile_name.ora'
exit

Did you change the parameter regarding SYSTEM Triggers before you started upgrade?

I hope your have pfile.

1/ Manually edit your pfile (NOT SPFILE)

2/ startup upgrade pfile=...../init.ora

If not.

sqlplus "/as sysdba"

shutdown immediate

create pfile from spfile;

Then follow above comments

_system_trig_enabled flag=false

IIRC, the patch release notes should say to the above.

What is contents of tail end of alert log?
What is contents of latest trace file?

Hello,

When I add the parameter _system_trig_enabled flag=false in the init.ora file i get an ORA-01078: Failure in processing system parameters.

Where can I add this parameter?

I think that the problem is related with memory, because when I increase in the init.ora file the values of SGA and PGA the database remains up longer, but after a while (about 1 min) it shutdowns.

Thanks.

NF

Hello,

I try with the PFILE that you suggested, but the problem remains.
the database shutdowns almost immediatly after the restart.

Do you have anymore suggestions?

Thanks.

Sound like you start with MS service?
Can you post step by step here?
Eg:
C:\>oraenv
C:\>sqlplus /"as sysdba"
SQL> startup pfile=''

And post the error which was showed by starting up database (Mount/Open)

Hi,

The steps that I've used were:
c:> sqlplus / "as sysdba"
SQL>startup upgrade pfile = 'C:\Programas\Oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\BIEPME\pfile\init_test.ora'

Total System Global Area 1073741824 bytes

Variable Size 264242876 bytes
Database Buffers 801112064 bytes
Redo Buffers 7086080 bytes
Database mounted.
Database opened.

SQL> select * from dual;
select * from dual
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

And the database shutdows...!

The ORA-03113 error was caused by many error.
There are many possible causes for the ORA-03113 error. See MetaLink Note:17613.1 "ORA-03113":

For example, ORA-3113 could be signaled for any of these scenarios:

- Server machine crashed
- Your server process was killed at O/S level
- Network problems
- Oracle internal errors / aborts on the server
- Client incorrectly handling multiple connections
- etc.. etc.. etc.. - a lot of possible causes !!

Look at Metalink
ORA-3113 "end of file on communication channel" - Note 17613.1.

Your error such as:
Quote:

g. Wait 3 minutes then issue a select. On error see A4
Eg: SQL> select count(*) from DBA_OBJECTS;

I hope this Note can help you resolve the problem.

Good luck!

Finally I come to know this is server releated issue.

Try to raise SR to metalink. You may need to install OS patch.
