Thanks a lot for the helpful answers!

On a system that has to be 24h a day online and some package beeing constantly instantiated, there is no other simple solution to the "ORA-4068" problem for installing packages.

I certainly will have to consider the use of global variables in the packages, but I think I can't just get rid of them.

About the dbms_session.reset_package call: how about the performance? What if I would stick this reset_package-call before every package-call (say I am calling a package function 10 times an hour)? Would it slow down the system?
