I am trying to insert a xml into a column of CLOB datatype.It is giving an error

ORA-01401: inserted value too large for column

Somebody please help me out.

Proper use SQL.
To get more help, you have to put more information but I doubt you have a XML data larger than 4GB.

Would you by any chance be doing something like this:
INSERT INTO table (col_1) values ('a string longer than 4000 chrs....');


If so, the solution is to split the string into chunks of <= 4000 chrs, wrap each chunk in a call to TO_CLOB, and then concatenate these clobs together.
