I don't know a thing about this type of database, I have a Visual Basic report wizard that workes with an access database but I was told to make it also able to access different databases. So where should I start when it comes to Oracle?
do I just change the sql string? or is there tables and fields to even be accessed?

SQL is same in any database except some functions ( like to_char,decode in oracle).SQL is used to get values stored in tables.

read documentation about RDBMS concepts.
