No need to cluster in OS level. Oracle clusterware will handle the
databases.

first of all, happy new year.

i know for a fact that it will handle it on linux, but i haven't read an article stating that oracle clusterware will or will not handle it on unix. the topic is kind of vague with respect to unix. i was wondering if any can recommend some readings.
one more thing, if i cluster it on the OS level lets say using GPFS, then should i install oracle clusterware ?
this topic is also vague for me, personnaly i believe i dont have since its already clustered on the OS level and oracle will see the two servers as one.

any idea guys?

Hi,

I've alredy tried configuring RAC on Enterprise Linux 4 with Oracle Clusterware since Linux doesn't have any build-in clusterware and it works fine.

As far as I know, the benefit of using oracle clusterware is that it can manage the failover process within RAC environment, while the os clusterware can't.
