Thanks a tonne John for your inputs.
I am using this single_date function that I mentioned earlier and calling it from another stored procedure.
The procedure updates the value returned by this function and inserts the result of either the correct date or 99991231 based on the single_date function into a third table.
The issue being, the date passed to single_date comes from a table wherein the dates are defined as varchar and when the update is done it should go to another table as a date field which isnt happening.
Hope my problem is coming through to you.
Please do let me know how I can go about achieving this.
