I am trying to run NET8 Easy Config on my client machine after a server upgrade from Oracle7.3/SQL*Net to Oracle8.0.4/NET8. I get an error message saying that "Some features of Oracle Version 8 may not run correctly in Windows 98. Fos possible updates, please check the Oracle Web Site at http://www.oracle.com"

The NET8 config will not run and I can find nothing at the Oracle home page about Windows 98 patches. Any ideas on where I need to go? Thnaks!

Hai Mr. gravitt ....
If you needed configure NET8 for connect to server oracle 8.x ...
you can configured or edit file tnsnames.ora on ORACLE_HOME\NET8\admin\ like this script ..
ORCL.WORLD =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 132.147.2.100)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = ORCL))
)

Hi,

The problem isn't with configuring TNSNAMES.ORA but with running Net8 (v 8.0.4). It doesn't work with Windows 98. As far as I know you need v.8.0.5

Hi everybody

I have a similar ERROR to tell you

I have installed Oracle8 DB in Windows95 and it is working
good because I can access it with sql plus.

I have created a service with 'Net easy config' using 'Beq' protocol
and the test is correct.

Later, using de ODBC Admin of MS I created a SYSTEM DSN associated
with the service created before. and the test with the ' ORACLE ODBC
TEST' is Ok.

Later on, I installed the Developer 2000 in the same machine.
The problem is that when I execute some developer aplication
such as the query builder and I try to connect to the local DB
I get this ERROR

REP-0501: Unable to connect to the specified database
ORA-12154: TNS could not resolve service name.

and I can't connect

What is the problem????

The TNSNAMES.ora file I have IS

# TNSNAMES.ORA Configuration file: C:\ORAWIN95\NET80\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora
# Generated by Oracle Net8 Assistant

Tcp-loopback.world =
(DESCRIPTION =

)

-----
And the sqlnet.ora

TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT = OFF
sqlnet.authentication_services = (NTS)
names.directory_path = (TNSNAMES, HOSTNAME)
names.default_domain = world
name.default_zone = world
automatic_ipc = off

Both in the same directory WINORA95\net80\ADMIN

and the directory is in the PATH

Please I need your help...

Thanks
