Hello All,

I have a monitoring report which shoots an email based on some conditions.

It is returning the following error.

SQLCODE:-29279 SQL ERR MSGORA-29279: SMTP permanent error: 500 #5.5.1 command not recognized

I searched a lot in the net. There are no suggestions given for this specific error. Information is available for errors such as "string too long","too many connections" but not for "#5.5.1 command not recognized "

Please help if anyone has come accross this error.

This is an SMTP and not an Oracle error. Your SMTP log file should contain the glory details. For example, if you use sendmail, it will be something like /var/log/maillog.

Best of luck!

It depends on your operating system and the SMTP program you use on that system. If you can, ask your System Administrator. They normally configure the mail/smtp service.

Best regards.

This is a production system. I am not sure if I can contact the administrator for this file. Is there anyway I can query the database for information about the error?

or if anyone has come across this before, they can help me by providing the possible causes.......

No there is no way.
As it is a system error tell you system administrator, this is his/her job to analyze the problem and comes back to you with what he/she found (and maybe question about what you did).

Regards
Michel
