hi all,
was wondering if anyone has seen this error message when trying to connect to an oracle (10i) database :

Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-01019

i dont know why toad all of a sudden stopped working for me. have gone through the troubleshooting guide and checked :

ORACLE_HOME is set
PATH include ORACLE_HOME\bin dir
entry of the database exists in tnsnames.ora file
registry settings look ok i.e in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ORACLE the oracle home is set

when i click on 'Advise' button in toad it says :

"you must add the loaction of your sql*net installation to your system PATH statemment"

but how did it work before is what i dont understand since i havent changed anything !!

any ideas as to what could be wrong ??

thanks in advance.

There's no Oracle 10i database; 10g is its name.

Is, perhaps, TOAD version (7.2) too old to successfully connect to Oracle 10g database? Would it be possible to upgrade TOAD?

Did you check this TOAD Wiki page?

Did anything change? It sounds quite unbelievable that it worked "yesterday", nothing changed and all of the sudden it doesn't work "today".

hi,
am not sure whats changed. i didnt change anything but in order for it to stop working something must have changed somewhere !! i just dont know where though.

anyway, have upgraded to toad9.5 and it's giving me this error when i try and connect to that same database :

Can't initialise OCI. Error -1

this is a free download so am not sure if it has all the installs. have you used toad 9.5 before ??

Did you install Oracle Client? If not, perhaps you should have.

You are probably missing the file oci.dll, so as Littlefoot points out, you have probably NOT installed the Oracle Client.
IF installed, try to reinstall and verify that you can locate oci.dll and oraclient10.dll.
