I am new to PL language and Oracle. I've only had to deal with it on a limited basis. I am trying to do (in my opinion) a very simple and logical select stat

I am not sure where you are facing problem. You can learn about PL/SQL using PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference


The major nuance is that the form of the SELECT statement is different from its SQL form. After the SELECT clause, we must have an INTO clause listing variables, one for each attribute in the SELECT clause, into which the components of the retrieved record(NOTE: not records) must be placed.
