I was wondering whether there is a way to find out the table
name...given

1) just the value of a column

2) sometimes the value as well as column name
(DBA_TAB_COLUMNS)

you mean you want to search all tables and columns for a specified value?

If so, try to understand the general principle here and then modify to your need.

Search on AskTom for "find_string" function.
