I need to encrypt and decrypt the password for authenticating the user to access an application.

can you please suggest how to do this.

i dont want even the admin to be aware of the password. If the user forgets the password all we can do is just resetting the password to a new one but cant get back to the earlier password.

How is this related to Oracle and SQL?
Use a one-way encryption package, for instance if you want to store it in a table use dbms_crypto.hash.
