Hi ,

I am unable to start up or shutdown my database

I am getting the below error.



NETMAN3_plxa 9i>/oracle20/app/oracle/product/9.2 : export ORACLE_SID=plxa
NETMAN3_plxa 9i>/oracle20/app/oracle/product/9.2 : sqlplus /nolog

SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production on Tue Sep 16 08:12:52 2008

SQL> conn / as sysdba
Connected to an idle instance.
SQL> shutdown immediate;
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
HP-UX Error: 2: No such file or directory
SQL> exit
Disconnected

Any solution for this.......Pls urgent

You have never tried to start it.

sorry i tried startup and am getting hanged...
any solution why am getting this error..

Which error? The only errors you posted are the ones where you tried to shut down the already down database.

SQL>STARTUP instead of "SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE".

Off course you get that error. Because the database already is down.

SQL> conn / as sysdba
Connected to an idle instance.

Means the database is down.

i tried startup but its getting hanged.
no progress...

so i tried to shutdown.. its just a try....

can help me out in releasing the SGA memory...
