Hi,

I have 100GB of DB on Oracle 9i on Solaris.
I am using following plan 1 method for RMAN Backup

Plan - 1
--------
Sunday-Level 0
Monday to Saturday - Differential Incremental Level 1

Plan - 2
--------
Once a month - Level 0
Cummulative - Every Sunday
Differential Incremental - Monday to Saturday

Which plan is better and why? Also which level (1 or 2) should I use for cummulative and incremental plan 2?

Regards,
Tushar

None is better. It only depends on your needs.
Don't use level greater than 1, they are no more available in 10g and up.

Why not and why not any other option Oracle allows?
It all depends on the requirements for backup and recovery.

Backups should be designed in such a way that it takes less time to backup and is quickly recoverable .

1) Go for weekly level 0 backup and daily cumulative incremental backups if recovery time is more important in your case .

2) If you want to keep your backup time to minimum , go for level 0 on Sunday and differential level 1 backups from Mon to Sat .

Its for you to decide Option 1 or option 2 .
