Hi,
Iam trying to connect Oracle 8.1.6 database to Oracle
10.1.0.2 database as we have a process of refreshing data every month.Which is the best way to connect two servers other than dblink?

Thanks in Advance,
Kavitha.

You simply can't connect 8i and 10g.
This is not allowed.
If you want to do this you have to transit through a 9i database and of course use database links.

But I have used 8.1.7 to connect to 10g. I did this because we still had a 7.3.4 database that needed to get to 10g, so I used 8.1.7 as a "bridge."

Maybe 8.1.6 was different?

Maybe 8.1.6 was different?

V8.1.7 SQL*Net was different from V8.1.6
I totally agree with your post!

Yes, this is that, with 8.1.6 you will have (from time to time) an error ORA-3134.

10g-8.1.7 is no more supported but was.
