1. Nothing is as easy as it looks. (Installing, configuring and administering oracle databases is harder than it looks.)

2. Everything takes longer than you think. ( it takes longer than your planned down time)

3. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. ( database can crash)

4. If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong. (If there are several databases the one that your business depends on the most can crash) Corollary: If there is a worse time for something to go wrong, it will happen then.( that database can crash during the peak business hour)

5. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. (Just when you’re done recovering disk failure!)

6. If you perceive that there are four possible ways in which a procedure can go wrong, and circumvent these, then a fifth way, unprepared for, will promptly develop. (You get the best disks only to realize backup tapes are ruined!)

7. Left to themselves, things tend to go from bad to worse. ( unmonitored databases go from bad to worse)

8. If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something. (AWR? ADDM? ASH?)

9. Nature always sides with the hidden flaw. (during a thunder strike all the surge protectors works except the flawed ones protecting the database servers)

10. It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious. (Junior DBAs will screw the DB no matter how much you train them.)

11. Whenever you set out to do something, something else must be done first. (before becoming a Senior DBA must survive as a junior DBA)

12. Every solution breeds new problems. ( every patchset requires more patches)

Enjoy the big list
