I'd say that this errormessage is a lot clearer than your post.
You didn't even bother to tell us in what application you get this error!

I reckon the OP is using a new Java tool and pointing it at an Oracle 7 database.

hi,
Got this error when I run a VB front end application connecting to Oracle database.hence as per one of the suggestions, reinstalled Oracle client onto the system.
Secondly , modified the oraclepath in the system. now the problem is solved.
grateful to ORAFAQ's forum for timely and immediate response.
