I'm a newbie. I have just installed Oracle9i Client into a standalone computer. When I tried to run SQL*Plus, it prompts me for userid, password and host string.

What should I fill in for these 3 fields? Thanks!!!

I have installed Oracle9i client in Win2000 Pro.
Get those from your DBA [message #2960 is a reply to message #2955] Mon, 26 August 2002 04:36 Go to previous messageGo to next message

userid: your db userid
pwd: the password for the db userid
connect string: this tells SQL*Plus which db you
want to connect to.

You can get all 3 of the above from your DBA.

BTW, the connect string is created/defined in Network Configuration Manager (that's what it's called in version 8.0.x anyway).

Actually, I have installed Oracle9i Client in my standalone home PC w/o network connection. I'm running on Win2000. I can't seem to figure out how to configure the Network Configuration Maanger.

I have tried to user sys/change_on_install, system/manager and scott/tiger. But I still can't log in. The errors are Protocol adapter error or No Listener.

What shall I do next?

Noting that you are running your Oracle on standalone and by yourself , Use the defaults provided by Oracle server for these fields:
User ID ; scott
password: tiger
leave the third field empty.
