I assume using RMAN to backup Oracle database to backup sets, then archive the backup sets to tape. Am I right?

You have several options when it comes to RMAN and tape backup.

* You could use RMAN to backup directly to tape.
* You could use RMAN to backup to a staging area on disk and then use RMAN to backup this staging area to tape.
* You could use RMAN to backup to a staging area on disk and then use your normal system backup procedures to backup this staging area to tape.
