Hi,

I am working on oracle 10g 10.2.0.1 on Linux 32 bit, In Enterprise manager it is showing Dump Area used (%) 60%, when i removed all of my trace file from bdump, cdump, dpdump, adump. My archive log files are also in this dump area, so i removed most of archice and from rman delete expired archivelog too.

But it is still showing 57%

When i look at parameter MAX_DUMP_FILE_SIZE=unlimited

Then why there is a full % IN Enterprise Manager

Hi,

Though you have removed all files (deleted), unless and untill you to issue "crosscheck" backup or copy and issue "delete obsolete", it will not reclaim space.

Also it is advisable not to keep archive log files in this directory.

Can you post
sql>archive log list
output? (connect as sysdba using sqlplus)

Will show archive destination (check your self if archive logs are deleted from here).

Following is the output

Database log mode Archive Mode
Automatic archival Enabled
Archive destination /u01/app/oracle/admin/test4/archive
Oldest online log sequence 472
Next log sequence to archive 474
Current log sequence 474

only 3 archive are present at this time of 46MB each.

i also create export dump in bin folder /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_4/bin

when i delete dump files from this folder now dump area size is 33%

Quote:
Archive destination /u01/app/oracle/admin/test4/archive

This means archivelog files automatically created in this directory.

contrary to above archive destination. or you have manually moved to that directory and removed.

And as per commands issued by you (rman) there are no obsolete/expired files/backup. So no question of space reclamation!!

Thank you for your help, now i understand that Dump area use% is showing area used by whole database, because the dump file lies in the same mounting point
