I recently ran this script against each schema in my database.

select to_char(sysdate,'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI:SS') as Start_Time from dual;
exec dbms_stats.Gather_schema_Stats('ALF');
select to_char(sysdate,'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI:SS') as Finish_Time from dual;

and now when I did a new import of my dba_tab_cols into access to view the changes, I have a bunch of weird chinese/japanese characters in my listing. Any ideas on what has caused this and what might be done to fix it?

also here is the nls

I think i have answered my on ?

I think they are caused by the dbms_stats doing computations on a character field.

If you by chance think of something else, let me know, but most likely I feel this is the cause.

Thanks

ok, so I am not sure what the problem is here. You are using a variable for the name of the file you wish to call, and that file simply does not exist. Where does the "odd characters" come into place and where is the import of dba_tab_columns? Are these two different questions?

HUH?

I assume this processed used to work for you.
Right?

If so, by what leap in logic (or lack thereof) do you conclude that DBMS_STATS spontaneously went broken & started misbehaving?

PEBKAC.
