I have Windows server working Oracle 8.0.5.
I have to migrate to another server that is Oracle 11gR2 on Windows 2008.
Some say I can't do Export and Import directly.
And some say DBlink is not working from 11Gr2 to 8.

What can be fewest step to migrate?
Somebody try to use 'Oracle directory' and VB and Powerbuilder program to send data and DDL from 8 to 11Gr2.
I didn't understand fully about this method.

What can be suggested migrating from Oracle 8.0.5 to 11Gr2 machine.
Thank you.

This is wrong, you can, more it is the only way.

This is correct.

Xie Xie Thank you very much.
I might try each user export and import from 8 to 11gr2.

or
I might try Powerbuiler or VB program to migrate database,
in that case Oracle directory should be used.

How do you think?

all senior member if i am wrong please correct me.

the world use Migration, as per my knowledge when we switch to one technology to other technology is migration like currently i am using sql server and now i want to transfer this server to Oracle so this term is Migration

but the question here is the person want to switch 8 to 10gr2 so the plateform is same "ORACLE", i think this term is "UPGRATION"

PLEASE HELP TO UNDERSTAND THESE TWO TERM

THANKS TO ALL Smile

There is no difference.
Before 10g, Oracle calls it "migration", starting from 10g it calls it "upgradation".

AND DO NOT POST IN UPPER CASE.

Don't they call it "upgrade"?

"Upgrade" already is a noun, you don't have to add "ation" to turn it into one. ( pet peeve of mine, it drives me bonkers. ;-P )
