Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Applications Enable Organizations to Optimize the Digital Supply Chain with Improved Visibility and Predictive Insights

Mon, 2017-02-13 14:15
Press Release
Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Applications Enable Organizations to Optimize the Digital Supply Chain with Improved Visibility and Predictive Insights IoT predictive analytics automate business processes and operations across the supply chain to enhance the customer experience

Oracle Modern Supply Chain Experience, San Jose, Calif.—Feb 13, 2017

Oracle announced that it is expanding its Internet of Things (IoT) portfolio with four new cloud solutions to help businesses fully utilize the benefits of digital supply chains. These solutions enable businesses to detect, analyze, and respond to IoT signals and incorporate these insights into existing and rapidly evolving market capabilities.

Signals from IoT-enabled devices are growing exponentially and represent an opportunity for organizations that are able to manage, interpret, and leverage these vast sources of data. Organizations with the tools to integrate device data into business processes and applications can gain critical predictive insights and drive cost-effective actions. IoT solutions enable businesses to deliver innovative new services faster and with less risk to their customers.

“The world is becoming ever-more digital and IoT is the next step on that journey—delivering better customer experiences and helping organizations achieve a competitive advantage," said Bhagat Nainani, group vice president of IoT applications development at Oracle. “Oracle IoT Applications enable businesses to leverage connected devices and equipment to modernize the digital supply chain.”

Oracle IoT Applications support three important functions: device registration and data collection; signal analysis and interpretation; and connection to specific business processes. By applying advanced, predictive analytics to the device signals, Oracle IoT Applications calculate complex business-specific KPIs and trigger automated actions in real time. The solutions can deliver capabilities, such as predictive maintenance, diagnostic dashboards, and increased real-time visibility, and can be applied to manufacturing, quality, and product data, as well as logistics and employee movements.

The new cloud applications integrate with Oracle Supply Chain Management (SCM) Cloud Applications to make IoT signals actionable and include the following products:

  • IoT Asset Monitoring Cloud: Monitors assets, utilization, availability, and data from connected sensors and creates incidents in the backend SCM, ERP, or Service Clouds to automate the workflows
  • IoT Connected Worker Cloud: Tracks employees to support safety, service, and regulatory compliance initiatives
  • IoT Fleet Monitoring Cloud: Monitors position and progress of passenger, service, and delivery vehicles and driver-behavior
  • IoT Production Monitoring Cloud: Monitors production equipment to assess and predict manufacturing issues

These aforementioned IoT Cloud applications are built on the Oracle IoT Cloud and Oracle Big Data Cloud. They integrate with Oracle SCM Cloud and Oracle Service Cloud, as well as on-premises software, to enable operational visibility, and facilitate better customer service and responsiveness.

“Noble Plastics is an innovative custom injection molding manufacturer that leverages robotics for automation. We see tremendous potential in IoT to drive predictive maintenance of industrial robots,” said Scott Rogers, Technical Director, Noble Plastics. “Oracle IoT Asset Monitoring Cloud will help us in monitoring FANUC robots that are deployed on our plant floors and alert technicians proactively on their mobile device. This will enhance product quality, production efficiency and throughput while controlling costs.”

Press Release
Oracle Launches Cloud Service to Help Organizations Integrate Disparate Data and Drive Real-Time Analytics Enhances Oracle Cloud Platform Portfolio with Oracle Data Integrator Cloud Service

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Feb 13, 2017

Oracle today expanded Oracle Cloud Platform’s data integration offerings with the launch of Oracle Data Integrator Cloud. This new cloud service significantly simplifies and accelerates cross-enterprise data integration to support real-time analytics that help organizations drive better business decisions.

In today’s information driven economy, data is a fundamental asset to most businesses. As more and more data moves to the cloud, getting information and insight to the right people and the right applications at the right time becomes progressively more difficult. With the introduction today of the Oracle Data Integrator Cloud, organizations can improve their agility by deploying projects more quickly, reduce risk with an open, non-proprietary technology, and reduce costs with better productivity.

“To be effective and agile, enterprises need seamless communication and flow of data between sources and targets - data originating from IoT, Web, and business applications or data that is stored in the cloud or on premises,” said Jeff Pollock, vice president of product management, Oracle. “Oracle Data Integrator Cloud provides businesses with a high-performance, simple, and integrated cloud service to execute data transformations where the data lies, with no hand coding required, and without having to copy data unnecessarily.”

Easy to use and integrate, Oracle Data Integrator Cloud helps organizations improve productivity, reduce development costs, and lower total cost of ownership by facilitating better data movement and transformation between Oracle and non-Oracle systems, data sources, and applications. It offers a flow-based declarative user interface along with release management capabilities that allow customers to improve productivity and better manage their code, as well as their development, testing and production environments. Oracle Data Integrator Cloud’s high performance architecture, with its E-LT capabilities and advanced parallelism options enable faster, more efficient loading and transformation for data marts, data warehouses, and big data systems.

Oracle Data Integrator Cloud is fully integrated with Oracle’s PaaS offerings, including Oracle Database Cloud, Oracle Database Exadata Cloud, and Oracle Big Data Cloud. Oracle also delivers pre-built integration for non-Oracle solutions, allowing users to seamlessly switch between underlying Big Data technologies such as Hive, HDFS, HBase, and Sqoop.

Oracle Cloud

Oracle Cloud is the industry’s broadest and most integrated public cloud, offering a complete range of services across SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS. It supports new cloud environments, existing ones, and hybrid, and all workloads, developers, and data.  The Oracle Cloud delivers nearly 1,000 SaaS applications and 50 enterprise-class PaaS and IaaS services to customers in more than 195 countries around the world and supports 55 billion transactions each day.

Outsourcing Inc. Standardizes on Oracle Identity Cloud Service

Wed, 2017-02-08 07:00
Press Release
Outsourcing Inc. Standardizes on Oracle Identity Cloud Service Selects solution that enhances security while not compromising on ease-of-use

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Feb 8, 2017

Oracle today announced that Outsourcing Inc., the leading outsourcing services for manufacturing companies, selected Oracle Identity Cloud Service, a next-generation security and identity management cloud platform that is designed to be an integral part of the enterprise security fabric.

Outsourcing is experiencing rapid growth to address the changes of its customer-base. Its sales for the period ending December 31, 2015 reached a record high 80.8 billion Yen, and it has grown by 36 percent year-after-year. Currently, the company focuses on key industries such as IT, construction, and healthcare. It has invested 43 billion Yen in mergers and acquisitions and has 31 subsidiaries in Japan and 54 subsidiaries worldwide.

In order to provide a solution to its expanding global work force, Outsourcing required a technology solution that would provide best-in-class security for employees without compromising user–experience.  Additionally, the company needed a solution that could work across multiple cloud services and on-premises applications used by the group’s companies in Japan and overseas. Outsourcing needed a solution that would integrate with Oracle's Documents Cloud Service so it could promptly operate with Oracle’s SaaS applications, applications built on the Oracle Cloud Platform, and third-party cloud services.

Oracle Identity Cloud will provide Outsourcing’s employees with Single Sign-on authentication that will allow them to access documents via the Oracle Documents Cloud tool. This will improve user experience and streamline operational management and enhance security. It will also build the technical foundation and operation of user ID management and authentication in the cloud. Outsourcing also plans to develop a collaboration with custom applications running on Oracle’s IaaS and PaaS and to establish a common ID and access management platform within group companies while sequentially deploying it to Oracle’s SaaS applications and third-party service.

"Outsourcing needed to establish an agile, secure system environment because of its expanding business through mergers & acquisitions (M&A), diversifying target industries, and growing domestic and overseas networks,” said Kinji Manabe, General Manager in Business Management Department, Outsourcing, Inc. “Oracle has a proven record of providing the best-in-class management solutions, and we are convinced that the Oracle Identity Cloud will be the foundation for the future growth of Outsourcing."

Utilities Regulators See Value in the Cloud and Cloud Technology Investments as Critical to Utilities’ Success

Wed, 2017-02-01 10:00
Press Release
Utilities Regulators See Value in the Cloud and Cloud Technology Investments as Critical to Utilities’ Success Oracle Utilities study highlights U.S. regulators’ support and strategies for cloud technology use by utilities

DistribuTECH, San Diego, Calif.—Feb 1, 2017

Today Oracle Utilities announced the findings of its new U.S. regulators cloud study “Clearing a Path to the Cloud: U.S. Regulator Perspectives on Cloud Technologies”, highlighting that 83 percent of U.S. utilities regulators surveyed believe the cloud to be an important technology trend and 67 percent agree that the cloud will be critical to utilities’ future success. The new study is a follow on to Oracle’s 2016 utilities study “On Cloud Now”.

According to the findings, regulators are focused on the cloud: 33 percent already have a specific and comprehensive strategy for cloud and 69 percent either have, or will have, a team that focuses on understanding the role of cloud technologies in utilities.

“The findings from last year’s utilities study and this year’s regulator study point to a significant paradigm shift, as both parties recognize the value of cloud technologies and the important roles they will play in utilities’ processes and operations,” said Rodger Smith, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Utilities.

With the rise of distributed energy resources, a more customer-centric grid, and the need for improved customer engagement, there are many ways utilities can implement cloud technologies in their businesses. Nearly 50 percent of regulators surveyed listed meter data management as one of the top three areas in which utilities can deploy cloud in their organizations, with big data analytics at 41 percent and distribution automation at 36 percent.

The adoption of cloud is, in part, being shaped by regulators, making it important to understand their perspective on what role they see themselves playing. Nearly 80 percent – almost 4 out of 5 – believe that they should play at least some role in determining whether or not utilities use cloud technologies. They also indicated that they have the tools to effectively regulate the use of cloud. Significantly, the study highlighted that two thirds of regulators surveyed want to treat cloud investment as a capital expense.

“The results of this study show that for utilities who are creating a strategy for how they can leverage the cloud in their business, alignment with regulators will be a key component, as they continue to be influential in the bigger cloud adoption picture,” Smith said.

Conducted by research firm Zpryme on behalf of Oracle Utilities, the Oracle Utilities “Regulatory Perspectives on Cloud Technologies” study surveyed 76 U.S. regulatory staff and commissioners about their cloud perspectives.

Oracle Utilities Unveils Network Management Platform of the Future

Wed, 2017-02-01 10:00
Press Release
Oracle Utilities Unveils Network Management Platform of the Future Oracle Utilities Network Management System 2.3 supports transition to a customer-centric grid

DistribuTECH, San Diego, Calif.—Feb 1, 2017

Oracle today introduced Oracle Utilities Network Management System 2.3, an expanded network management platform that enables utilities to make the transition to a customer-centric grid by giving operators real-time visibility across all grid and pipeline assets and eliminating the complexities of siloed data and applications.

Utilities are facing major shifts in their operations caused by a rapid increase in distributed energy resources (DERs) such as solar PVs, storage systems, electric vehicles and connected home devices, as well as continuing issues with aging water and gas pipelines.

These new energy sources and increased monitoring of aging pipelines are creating even more data silos than ever before, making a seamless transition to a customer-centric grid extremely challenging.

Oracle Utilities Network Management System 2.3 now enables utilities to aggregate data from various network assets into a single interface with more detailed visibility into network operations. For the first time, utilities have network asset data—two-way distributed energy resource (DER) data, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) data, distribution management system (DMS) data and outage management system (OMS) data—all in a single interface for more meaningful analysis and decision making.

The enhanced system gives utility operators the visibility they need to respond to changing network conditions—whether that’s a flurry of new electric vehicles in a neighborhood and the need to resize transformers, or responding faster during a large storm outage or gas leak.

New features include a modern user interface, consistent across all applications. The mobile interface enables grid operators to communicate with field crews for faster issue resolution. This version also includes new safety features that alert operators about unsafe operations on the distribution lines due to DER. This release supports:

  • 1. Complete visibility of the distribution network with AMI, distribution sensors, GIS, SCADA, weather and other edge devices in a single platform.
  • 2. A scalable and future-proof platform that doesn’t lock utilities into a monolithic and stand-alone solution.
  • 3. Opportunities to increase reliability scores such as CAIDI and SAIDI even as the network evolves.
  • 4. Decreased restoration expenses by enabling field crews and operators to interact in real-time and resolve issues via mobile application.
  • 5. Support for gas, water, and electric utilities.

"The most successful utilities will embrace the emergence of a customer-centric network, and have a strategic vision of how technology can support it," said Rodger Smith, senior Vice President and general manager, Oracle Utilities. "In the first transitional phase, utilities built billions of dollars of infrastructure over several decades. Then with the advent of sensors and SCADA, we got better data and point-in-time visibility. Now we are in an age of predictive analytics, multiple new data streams from edge devices, and more complex real-time switching. We view our NMS solution as a platform that manages all aspects of the grid—from the customer’s living room to the utility back office.”

New Features in Oracle Utilities Network Management System
  • Enhances damage assessment and storm management features such as estimated restoration times for accurate communication to the customer.
  • Improves grid operator’s ability to prepare systems for outages with newly found data from GIS, weather, AMI, and SCADA systems.
  • Gives network managers advanced distribution management features that increase fault isolation, load shedding, and load profile capabilities.

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Jan 24, 2017

Oracle today announced the expansion of its Startup Cloud Accelerator program. The initiative will continue to fuel cloud-enabled innovation around the globe by opening new centers in Bristol, Delhi–NCR, Mumbai, Paris, São Paulo, Singapore and Tel Aviv.

Run by members of the Oracle research and development team, the program provides six months of mentoring from technical and business experts, state-of-the-art technology, a co-working space, access to Oracle customers, partners and investors, and free Oracle Cloud credits. Oracle Senior Vice President of Product Development Reggie Bradford, a serial entrepreneur himself, will lead the program expansion alongside Oracle Group Vice President of Development Sanket Atal, who first launched the pilot program in India.

“The next five to ten years promise innovations and growth that will drive new business ideas enabled by the cloud,” said Bradford. “Oracle understands that startups are at the heart of innovation, and through this program we aim to give startups access to extensive resources and support when they need it most.”

The Oracle Startup Cloud Accelerator is open to early-stage technology and technology-enabled startups. The call for applications will open later in 2017 in each of the seven new hubs. Interested startups can sign up to receive more information at www.oracle.com/startup.

New Planning Capability Enables Orvis to Scale and Grow

Mon, 2017-01-23 12:30
Press Release
New Planning Capability Enables Orvis to Scale and Grow Specialty Midmarket Fly-Fishing Retailer Deploys Oracle Retail Merchandise Financial Planning

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Jan 23, 2017

Founded in 1856, The Orvis Company of Manchester, Vermont is at its core, a fly-fishing and wing-shooting brand, and today is a trusted source of outdoor discovery and adventure, inspired by nature, driven by curiosity, and fulfilled by adventure. Their offerings include distinctive clothing for men and women, home furnishings, gifts, and dog products, each product and the services offered rooted in their sporting heritage, inspired by their love of the wild, and backed by a 100% guarantee of satisfaction. With more than 5,000 products, 500 independent dealers, 55 million catalog subscribers, and more than 70 stores, the Orvis Company is growing with $340 million in sales and approximately 1700 employees. Orvis recently transformed its planning operations by restructuring teams and implementing Oracle Retail Merchandise Financial Planning to improve inventory purchase strategies, increase visibility to market opportunities, and enable a tighter level of interdepartmental collaboration.

"With this Oracle Retail implementation we are going to have much more robust reporting-out opportunities, which can be tailored throughout the organization for different groups," said Frazier Blair, Vice President, General Merchandise Manager for Orvis. "We were very good at inventory planning, which I would call risk management. But this transformation is about being better sales drivers. Now we are equipped to plan sales, and profit as well."

To ensure a successful plan, Blair and her team, enlisted partners Parker Avery Group and Cognira, to embark on an extensive series of organizational, process, and technology changes. A significant component of the project was the replacement of an Excel-based inventory management system with the implementation of a modern Oracle Merchandise Financial Planning across all channels: direct-to-consumer sales (website and catalog), Orvis retail stores, and wholesale. The system went live in July 2016, on time and on budget.

A "vanilla" retail solution, Oracle Merchandise Financial Planning can be managed by a small team with multiple responsibilities, which is particularly important for a company like Orvis. As is common in midsize retail operations, Blair and her team wear a lot of hats; including all inventory functions, retail allocation, off-price inventory, and off-price sales channels. One important criterion for selecting the Oracle system was ease of use.

"Oracle is proud to work with Orvis and contribute to their success. We are focused on accelerating user productivity by leveraging persona-based dashboards at the core of the solution and highlighting opportunities that will impact service levels, inventory margins and key business metrics," said Ray Carlin, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Oracle Retail.

Ardene Transforms Merchandising to Support International Growth

Thu, 2017-01-19 14:09
Press Release
Ardene Transforms Merchandising to Support International Growth Fashion Retailer Supports Growth for More Than 400 Locations in the U.S. and Canada

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Jan 19, 2017

Today Oracle announced that leading North America retailer Ardene has implemented Oracle Retail Merchandise Operations Management to support its immediate and long-term international expansion. The fashion retailer is empowering merchants, and planners as they transform their promotions planning, merchandising, and inventory management for its more than 400 stores in Canada and the U.S.

Ardene launched its business transformation when growth began to test the limits of the company’s critical merchandising and store systems. The retailer partnered with systems integrator OLR Group to roll out the Oracle solutions and enable streamlined integration with Ardene’s existing information systems, establishing a connection that leverages the retailer’s legacy sales and customer data. The implementation began with merchandising to establish a foundation for growth.

Oracle will help equip Ardene to better serve customers and improve margins throughout its business. The technology began the implementation by establishing the item master to create a single system of record and execute purchase orders. Ultimately, Ardene will gain a better understanding of actual “landed costs” from global suppliers, to replenish warehouse and store inventory by color and size.

Ardene leverages Oracle Retail Merchandising solutions to manage inventory and has begun to streamline critical business purchase order processing through a third party. The goal is for the retailer to more effectively plan seasonal buys, optimize vendor relationships, rollout new customer promotions across unique markets, and preserve margins through centralized price management.

“Oracle empowers retailers to fulfill their business strategy with better insights and processes,” said Ray Carlin, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Oracle Retail. “Ardene is a great example of a retailer that is using Oracle to leverage its tremendous internal resources and talent, while establishing a foundation for innovation and growth.”

Oracle Marketing Cloud Teams with Eyeota to Enhance Global Data Offering

Thu, 2017-01-19 07:00
Press Release
Oracle Marketing Cloud Teams with Eyeota to Enhance Global Data Offering Eyeota data helps Oracle Data Management Platform customers improve ROI and strengthen customer experience across global campaigns

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Jan 19, 2017

Oracle Marketing Cloud today announced it is teaming with Eyeota to enable marketers and advertisers to use Eyeota data in the Oracle Data Management Platform to more intelligently target and personalize non-US campaigns to Eyeota’s three billion unique profiles in Europe, APAC, and the Americas. Eyeota data will be integrated into the Oracle Data Management Platform through the Oracle Data Cloud, and Oracle Data Management Platform users can build audiences directly from Eyeota data or by seamlessly combining it with additional data segments from Oracle’s BlueKai Marketplace.

Data has transformed marketing by giving marketers and advertisers the ability to enhance the customer experience and increase ROI. To extend the benefits of data-driven marketing strategies to international markets, advertisers need to be able to execute targeted, data-driven campaigns in all the markets they operate in, but this can often be extremely complex due to highly fragmented and linguistically diverse markets. The relationship between Oracle Marketing Cloud and Eyeota addresses this challenge by providing a new natively integrated data set that enables Eyeota data in areas such as socioeconomics, interest, intent and B2B to be activated within the Oracle Data Management Platform.

“To help global and international brands improve key campaign and ROI metrics, Oracle is committed to working with the best data providers in strategic markets across the globe,” said Karen Kokiko, senior product marketing manager, Oracle Marketing Cloud. “Our data management platform is differentiated on features and capabilities, but it truly stands out in terms of the data it has natively integrated into the platform. Eyeota’s audiences reflect the company’s depth of data in the EMEA and APAC regions and this integration dramatically improves our international data offering, making the Oracle Data Management Platform an even more compelling platform.”

Eyeota is a leading provider of high-quality audience data that enables brands to more efficiently identify and engage customers by using more than three billion unique profiles to create audience and message consistency across marketing channels. With the new integration, Oracle Data Management Platform users can increase speed to market by selecting, purchasing, and managing Eyeota data from within the Oracle Data Management Platform UI.

“In today’s market, brands understand the importance of knowing their audiences on an almost intimate level to help them deliver more personalized and relevant content, while enhancing the online experience,” said Kevin Tan, CEO, Eyeota. “Eyeota’s extensive global data segments provide a granular view of audiences to help them improve their outreach strategies. Our integration with the Oracle Data Management Platform offers brands deep insights to better understand their customers, improve audience engagement, and drive significant ROI.”

The Oracle Data Management Platform is integrated with Oracle Responsys, Oracle Eloqua, and Oracle Social Relationship Management platforms to allow marketers to achieve immediate cross-channel benefits. The Oracle Data Management Platform also enables marketers to seamlessly integrate Eyeota data with additional data from Oracle’s BlueKai Marketplace, which includes more than 30,000 data attributes on two billion consumer profiles drawn from 1,500 data partners.

The Oracle Marketing Cloud is part of the Oracle Customer Experience (CX) Cloud, one of the industry’s most complete CX solutions. Oracle CX Cloud empowers organizations to improve experiences, enhance loyalty, differentiate their brands, and drive measurable results by creating consistent, connected, and personalized brand experiences across all channels and devices.

UK-Based Mid-Size Online Sports Retailer Wiggle Uses Oracle to Support Double-Digit Growth

Tue, 2017-01-17 12:00
Press Release
UK-Based Mid-Size Online Sports Retailer Wiggle Uses Oracle to Support Double-Digit Growth

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Jan 17, 2017

Today Oracle announced, focused exclusively on tri-sport products and services UK-head-quartered specialty ecommerce retailer Wiggle (www.wiggle.com) is using Oracle solutions to sustain record sales and enable expansion into new markets.

The leading global online tri-sports retailer, founded just nine years ago and which last year completed its acquisition of Chain Reaction Cycles (CRC), went live on 31st October 2016 with its new retail platform comprising Oracle Retail Merchandising System (ORMS) and Oracle Merchandise Financial Planning (OMFP). The new platform performed admirably throughout the peak trading period of both Black Friday and Christmas.

Wiggle, already using Oracle Cloud Services including Oracle Fusion Financials & Procurement and Oracle Business Intelligence, completed its implementation of Oracle Retail Merchandising and Planning in less than ten months following data cleansing and detailed design.

“To grow from $200 million to $400 million in revenue, we have changed the way that we invest in and use IT,” said Wiggle CIO Jeff Wollen. “The Oracle platform scales optimally to support our near and long-term growth objectives, while changing the way that we work and how we drive performance across categories and market segments.”

With the Oracle Retail solutions in place, Wiggle has grown its sales during the peak 2016 holiday shopping period, using promotions to drive traffic, aligning merchandise with demand and fulfilling customer transactions. The company is using Oracle tools to better understand and drive performance across operations to align orders, cost, price and suppliers to further improve both customer experience and margins.

The impact on Wiggle business operations is widespread and changes the productivity paradigm by empowering merchants to gain inventory efficiencies by reconciling plans and forecasts across functions; and identifying opportunities to increase the success for both supplier and retailer. Wiggle partnered with Hitachi Consulting and OLR Group to implement the Oracle Retail solutions in a very rapid timeline.

“We are committed to making our best-in-class Oracle Retail solutions more accessible to midsize retailers like Wiggle. We are able to capture the learnings from our successful implementations around the globe to embed best practice into our offerings,” said Ray Carlin, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Oracle Retail. “With a cloud first strategy, we have an opportunity to deliver innovation even faster.”

Oracle Cloud Platform Expands to Help More Organizations Build and Deploy High-Performance Applications

Tue, 2017-01-17 07:00
Press Release
Oracle Cloud Platform Expands to Help More Organizations Build and Deploy High-Performance Applications Organizations can now run enterprise-class Oracle Database workloads on an even broader array of IaaS options for outstanding performance and unparalleled flexibility

Oracle CloudWorld, New York—Jan 17, 2017

Continuing its rich history of delivering game-changing cloud services, Oracle today unveiled new enhancements to the Oracle Cloud Platform, making it even more compelling for customers to move business-critical applications to the cloud. The company announced two industry firsts: the availability of the Oracle Database Cloud Service on bare metal compute, and new virtual machine (VM) compute, load balancing, and storage capabilities, all on the same low latency, high performance modern IaaS platform. With these enhancements, Oracle Cloud Platform now delivers differentiated database performance at every scale, and deeply integrated IaaS capabilities, for customers of any size to easily develop, test, and deploy their business-critical applications in the cloud.

“These latest investments in the Oracle Cloud Platform provide a clear path to develop, test, and scale applications—with the Oracle Database or third-party databases. We offer customers the most comprehensive approach to moving to the cloud and accelerating their business strategies,” said Thomas Kurian, president, product development, Oracle. “Oracle provides the broadest and strongest choice of relational database cloud services that are 100 percent compatible with applications deployed on-premises, making it easy for customers to seamlessly move enterprise workloads to the cloud.”

The Oracle Database Cloud Service, both on virtualized and high performance bare metal compute servers is ideal for development, testing, and deployment of enterprise workloads. The recently announced Oracle Database Exadata Express Cloud Service offers customers a low cost, fully managed service ideal for developers, business analysts, and midsized organizations. The Oracle Database Exadata Cloud Service delivers unparalleled performance for mission-critical data warehousing and transactional database workloads. Additionally, Oracle’s industry leading infrastructure platform design and uniquely differentiated network allow Oracle customers running Oracle Database on this modern IaaS platform to achieve over 50 times performance compared to any of the leading cloud database providers.*

“mFrontiers provides enterprise mobility management as a cloud service for enterprise customers. We find the Oracle Cloud Platform to be easy to use and truly elastic for provisioning and scaling out to additional customers. We’re especially impressed by the ability to scale Oracle Database performance up or down on Oracle IaaS, without interruption, a key requirement to maximize efficiency and availability,” said Michael Ottoman, president and COO at mFrontiers.

Further enhancing the Oracle Cloud Platform, new IaaS services expand support for web-scale and enterprise applications. Oracle IaaS now offers one, two, and four-core virtual machine (VM) shapes, which run on the same low latency, high performance Virtual Cloud Network (VCN) as its bare metal compute shapes, block volumes, and object storage. This is an industry first. In addition, a new Load Balancing Service adds three provisioned bandwidth shapes—100Mbps, 400Mbps, and 8Gbps—supporting a range of application traffic, high availability, and security needs. Other enhancements include a new block storage shape (2TB) and encryption-at-rest for object storage.

“The Oracle Cloud Platform provides superior performance in terms of price, predictability, and throughput, with a low cost pay-as-you-go cloud model,” said Sam Mahalingam, chief technical officer, Altair. “We are delighted to partner with Oracle to provide High Performance Computing (HPC) solutions with Altair's PBS Works for the Oracle Cloud.”

Oracle Cloud is the industry’s broadest and most integrated public cloud, offering a complete range of services across SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS. Oracle Expands Cloud Services Globally with Three New Regions in North America and EMEA

Tue, 2017-01-17 07:00
Press Release
Oracle Expands Cloud Services Globally with Three New Regions in North America and EMEA Supports customer and partners with unprecedented levels of performance and availability for their most demanding cloud applications

Oracle CloudWorld, New York—Jan 17, 2017

Continuing its commitment to its cloud customers through extensive engineering and infrastructure investments, Oracle today announced plans to bring three new Regions online over the next six months. The regional expansion of Oracle’s cloud footprint will include Reston, Virginia; London, UK; and Turkey. The new Regions are expected to come online by mid-2017. With this expansion, Oracle will have doubled the regional presence of its cloud platform in the last 24 months, with 29 Regions available globally. Additional Regions are planned to come online in APAC, North America, and the Middle East through mid-2018.

Organizations are turning to Oracle at record-rates to build, deploy, and extend game-changing applications and run business-critical workloads in a low-latency, highly available, reliable and secure cloud environment. Today, customers in 195 countries are running their most demanding applications on the Oracle Cloud Platform.

“Oracle is committed to building the most differentiated Cloud Platform that delivers on the requirements of a wide array of customer workloads,” said Deepak Patil, vice president of development, Oracle Cloud Platform. “This regional expansion underscores our commitment to making the engineering and capital investments required to continue to be a global large scale cloud platform leader.”

Each of Oracle’s planned new cloud regions will consist of a minimum of three high bandwidth, low latency sites – or Availability Domains (ADs). These ADs are to be located several miles from each-other and operate in a completely fault-independent manner. This unique, differentiated approach provides the highest levels of failure protection and availability to Oracle customers’ most demanding cloud applications. Availability Domains are deeply integrated into the Oracle Cloud Platform, easing use and eliminating complex architectural decision-making around availability.

“We’ve been consistently impressed with the speed, availability and price of Oracle’s Bare Metal Cloud. This has, in turn, helped us grow our business across the world,” said Gareth Williams, CEO, YellowDog. “The new EMEA Regions will enable us to offer an improved service to our high-end customers in Europe who look to YellowDog to deliver not only super-fast, super-secure and high availability cloud rendering, but also super-low latency.”

Oracle Cloud Continues Exceptional Customer Momentum

Tue, 2017-01-17 07:00
Press Release
Oracle Cloud Continues Exceptional Customer Momentum Customers of all sizes and from all industries drive innovation and accelerate success with Oracle Cloud

Oracle CloudWorld, New York—Jan 17, 2017

Oracle today announced that the Oracle Cloud continues to experience unparalleled growth, adding thousands of customers in Q2 FY17. Leading organizations across more than 195 countries and countless industries rely on Oracle Cloud to help reduce cost and complexity, while gaining a competitive advantage in their respective markets.  Oracle Cloud today manages more than 55 billion transactions each day for companies ranging from Fortune 500s to emerging challengers, including Brinks, Doosan, Falkonry, G&J Pepsi Bottling, GE, Pernod Ricard, RadioShack, Safe Ports, T-Mobile, Trek, University of Kansas, and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

“Leading organizations are looking to Oracle for comprehensive cloud solutions that enable them to quickly integrate, customize, and extend as they continue migrating their business to the cloud,” said Thomas Kurian, president, product development, Oracle. “With the Oracle Cloud, customers are offered unrivaled choice and flexibility for their critical business workloads and applications.”

Oracle continues to see explosive customer adoption with more and more organizations moving their most demanding cloud applications to the Oracle Cloud. Organizations are turning to Oracle at record-rates to build, deploy and extend game-changing applications and run business-critical workloads in a low-latency, highly available, more reliable and secure cloud environment. Oracle is increasing its commitment to cloud customers through extensive infrastructure investments including the global expansion of its Regions to deliver Oracle Cloud services. Oracle Cloud is the industry’s broadest and most integrated public cloud, including SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS. In the past two years alone, Oracle has delivered more than 50 PaaS and IaaS services to market and introduced new deployment options like Oracle Cloud at Customer, providing unparalleled opportunity for customers.

Customers Drive Innovation and Business Transformation with Oracle Cloud

“As one of the largest family-owned and operated Pepsi franchise bottlers that employs more than 1,650 people at multiple locations across different production facilities, we needed a better way to drive efficiencies and engage with employees,” said Christina Walker, Executive Vice President, Human Resources, G&J Pepsi-Cola Bottlers, Inc. “Oracle HCM Cloud did just that—improving our HR management efficiency by boosting recruiting and onboarding effectiveness so we could identify top talent faster and more cost efficiently, leveraging social media to increase candidate pools from 20 to up to 300 people for a job, and delivering self-service capabilities for employees while also giving managers instant access to updated HR information needed to effectively manage their teams. All of this while being intuitive and eliminating the hassle of excess paperwork. Oracle has helped transform the role of human resources in the organization from recordkeeping to a true strategic business partner.”

“GE is transforming from an industrial business to the leading digital industrial and a top 10 software vendor. Cloud adoption is critical for this transformation as GE Digital markets its industrial internet cloud,” said Pradeep Juttu, director of Integration Architecture at GE Digital. “As we embarked on implementing, we needed a partner who would join us in this transformation as we looked to implement an ERP Cloud, and Oracle is that partner—Oracle SaaS and PaaS (Oracle ERP Cloud, Oracle CPQ Cloud, and Oracle Integration Cloud) have become vital to GE Digital’s business operations.”

“With a staff of less than 100 people, we rely on third-party vendors to manage many of our technology systems. When one of the vendors needed to be replaced, we standardized on Oracle as other vendors failed to meet our needs,” said Brian Vogelsmeier, Director of Information Technology, MCH Strategic Data. “We selected Oracle Cloud—Oracle Database Cloud Service, Oracle Compute Cloud Service and Oracle Storage Cloud Service—for our in-house application development and testing environment in order to provision new database environments fast, accelerate time to market from months to weeks, scale to meet business growth and increased workloads, and securely share data with clients.”

“By deploying our Oracle Retail Merchandising System on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as a Service and Platform as a Service, we are able to reduce our physical server footprint and get faster access to new releases. The end result is better performance and lower costs,” said David Rawls, vice president of technology, RadioShack. “We also can extend compute power at the click of a button, which is especially important during the holiday surge. The bottom line is very powerful—Oracle Cloud delivers greater stability, security, flexibility, and simplicity.

“We use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as a Service to quickly provision Oracle workloads, as well as install custom-built applications for non-Oracle workloads,” said Sergei Petrov, CTO, Safe Ports. “The communication and integration between the two is seamless because they run on the same environment and gives us a major advantage.”

“Our mission is to continue to be the world’s best bicycle company and for us, that goes well beyond the bike itself. Continuing to modernize our offerings to deliver the best customer experience is critical,” said Girish Washikar, Global ERP Technical Manager, Trek Bicycle Corporation. “Using Oracle SOA Cloud and Oracle Developer Cloud Services, as well as Oracle’s Infrastructure as a Service will enable us to support continuous growth in global markets by providing increased stability, efficiency and availability of our mission critical SOA infrastructure.  With Oracle Mobile Cloud Service, we are developing Mobile Apps which enable our dealers to provide better customer experiences by delivering information and services where and when they need them.”

Oracle CloudWorld, New York—Jan 17, 2017

Oracle has a rich history of building platforms and developer-focused technologies that are loved and used by millions of developers around the globe. In continuation of its commitment to invest in the developer community—Oracle today announced that attendee registration and call for papers are now open for Oracle Code, a free event series that will bring developers together to learn about the latest technologies, best practices and industry trends. Starting March 1 in San Francisco, the Oracle Code event series will give attendees the insights they need to tackle development challenges in the Cloud through a combination of keynotes, technical sessions and hands-on labs delivered by industry luminaries, community members and Oracle experts. In total, there will be events in 20 cities across North America, Europe, Asia and South America in 2017.

As every industry and every business goes through the inevitable transformation around Cloud computing, developers continue to look to extend their expertise to Cloud migration, management and Cloud-native development. They are looking to quickly create applications with microservices, APIs, containers, machine learning, mobile backends and chatbots using modern DevOps processes. They need rich and robust platform capabilities including big data and analytics, integration, management and monitoring, mobility and Internet of Things (IoT). Developers want the ability to choose any programming language, database, operating system, virtualization technology and developer tool, including open source and third party options. They need the ability to deploy in the Cloud or on-premises with portability and interoperability.

Oracle Code helps developers continue learning about new and trending open source technologies such as Kafka/Spark, Docker/Kubernetes and diverse programming languages including Java, Javascript/Node.js, Python/PHP as well as databases such as Cassandra/MongoDB, MySQL and Oracle. Speakers at Oracle Code will provide technical, educational and pragmatic content, showcasing the latest developer technologies with hands-on labs, interactive experiences and demos as well as providing opportunities to network among developers of all backgrounds and levels.

The first Oracle Code event in San Francisco will feature a keynote from luminary JavaScript pioneer Douglas Crockford entitled “The Post JavaScript Apocalypse” and a keynote from Thomas Kurian, Oracle President of Product Development.

“Oracle is helping developers build applications with an open, modern and easy to use development Cloud platform,” said Thomas Kurian, Oracle President of Product Development. “With the Oracle Code event series, we are able to extend our commitment to the global developer community by providing an interactive forum for developers to learn about the latest technologies, connect with peers and share best practices.”
